Smart spraying in the plantations: D&G Fruit opts for precision with the green detection sensors from H.S.S.

HSS D&G

In a sector where efficiency, sustainability, and precision are becoming increasingly important, D&G Fruit is taking a strong step forward. With the recent investment in an H.S.S. orchard sprayer equipped with I.S.A green detection sensors, a patented H.S.S. system, the company is making a decisive choice for future-oriented fruit cultivation.

From spraying entire fields to precision work

Traditionally, an orchard is often sprayed uniformly, regardless of variations in leaf volume or open spaces between trees. This not only leads to higher usage of chemicals, but also to more drift and less efficiency.

With the H.S.S. orchard sprayers with Intelligent Spray Application (ISA), that changes completely. Thanks to smart sensors that detect chlorophyll and leaf mass, spraying only happens where it is needed. When the sensors do not detect vegetation, the spray nozzles automatically close.

The result? An extremely targeted application of crop protection, down to the tree level.

How does I.S.A. work in practice?

The technology behind I.S.A. is based on a combination of detection and direct control:

  • Sensors continuously scan the crop and recognize leaf structure
  • PWM technology (Pulse Width Modulation) controls the opening and closing of each spray nozzle
  • The machine reacts extremely quickly and sprays only where there are actually leaves

This means that empty spaces in the row are automatically skipped and the sprayer stops exactly at the beginning and end of each tree row.

Fewer resources, higher yield

The advantages of this technology are concrete and measurable. In practice, growers using I.S.A. technology can save up to 20% on crop protection products on average, without sacrificing effectiveness.

Additionally, targeted application results in:

  • Less drift and environmental impact
  • Lower long-term costs
  • More efficient use of labor and resources
  • Better compliance with stricter crop protection regulations

The technology also performs strongly in terms of environmental outcomes: drift reduction can reach up to 99%, making a significant contribution to sustainable agricultural practices.
